Chapter Check-In

Zeta Kappa
University of Minnesota

As usual the fall semester flew by without a hello or goodbye. Our chapter has been trying to participate in more community and social events. During the fall semester we had our annual rush and initiation get-togethers. As winter holds strong, the Zeta Kappa chapter finds itself gearing up for many volunteer opportunities… indoors.

Many of our faithful members have moved on to their lives in the “real world” of dentistry after graduation in 2008. After getting past their absence I realized how many good things can come from transition. In September we had ten new members join the Zeta Kappa chapter. Every room in our home is full, totaling 12 men and 6 women. Every person brings a different dynamic to our group, making our current chapter a great success.

Rush week was held the second week in September. We had a few new events this year! Luckily we had a Vikings/Packers game to celebrate our week of rush so we invited potential members over to the house for dinner and drinks. Also, this was the first year that we rented a lawn bowling field at one of our local establishments. We had complimentary games of lawn bowling and thought it would be nice for the first years to get to know their new classmates outside of school. Overall, the 2008 rush week was one of the best we’ve had in years.

Our initiation ceremony was held mid-October at our chapter’s home. We read the initiation charge by candlelight and then continued our night with a catered dinner and a party bus. Zeta Kappa University of Minnesota The night led to camaraderie and the initiation of many new friendships.

In December, we tried to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, but we were snowed in by one of the worst winters Minnesota has seen in years. We will try once again in late January to volunteer at this organization. Additionally, we would like to prepare a meal at the nearby Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis. We are lucky to have many students living in the house that are involved in ASDA again this year. We plan on having a great fraternity turnout at Give Kids a Smile, Dental Day at the Capital and GV Black Tie.

We just finished holding our first annual Winter Wonderland party. Everyone who attended had an opportunity to have a photo shoot with the ever-popular Psi Omega ice sculpture. The party was a great way to start off the new semester!

Lastly, our members who live at the house are looking forward to its upcoming renovations starting in the spring! We plan on remodeling all the floors and bathroom sinks in the house.

A big thanks to all those who have graciously donated money to Psi Omega, as these renovations would not happen without the help of our generous alumni!
