The fall semester of 2008 saw the rebirth of the Omicron chapter of Psi Omega at the University of Louisville. The Omicron chapter has been inactive for many years, but with the help of Dr. Wendy Hupp, Dr. James C. Kelly, and Dr. Don Gambrall, the chapter is now back in action!

Our activities began at the beginning of the semester when officers from the University of Tennessee chapter made a special trip to Louisville. They told our students what Psi Omega is all about and informed us about the different activities that our chapter may want to participate in. Their visit was very informative and much appreciated.

Initiation took place on November 23, 2008. Nine members were inducted. Dr. Wendy Hupp, our Deputy Councilor, and Dr. Chris Mattingly, an Omicron chapter alumnus, were present at the ceremony. The inductees were treated to snacks and drinks and repeated the Psi Omega oath after discussing the future of the chapter. Officers were also elected at the induction. Our officers for the 2008-2009 school year are: President –Ashley Killin, Vice- President- Brittany Stroope, Treasurer- Jefferson Newbern IV, Recorder- Christine Halliday, and Editor- Ebee Kandel. Along with the officers, Mark Scott II, Robert Wunderle, Melvin Washington, Sanghee Chon, Cindy Chang, and Jonathan Swope were also inducted. This semester we also chose three members to attend the Psi Omega conclave in February, along with Dr. Hupp: Melvin Washington, Cindy Chiang, and Ebee Kandel.

We are a small chapter so far, but we are excited about recruiting more members next semester. We are also looking forward to planning social events and service projects. Our first social event of the New Year will be “Shoes on Psi O,” a bowling night where we pay for the shoes of each participant. We are hoping to make Omicron chapter’s first year back an eventful one and are eager to start new Psi Omega traditions at ULSD. We would like to thank the University of Tennessee chapter for kicking our year off. We would also like to thank Dr. Hupp and Dr. Kelly for their support and guidance to our young chapter. –
