Last semester for the Psi Omega Gamma Gamma Chapter at the University of Florida College of Dentistry was filled with social activities, academic events, and outreach opportunities. Our rush chairs were busy recruiting over 60 new members, our social chairs were busy planning various social events, our academic chairs hosted numerous lunch and learns and our outreach chair helped organize multiple events that benefited the local Gainesville community. While keeping up with our studies, we have also celebrated the Gators football victory, winning the National Championship game played in Miami Florida!

The Gamma Gamma chapter hosts tailgators (tailgates) for every home football game. Members of the fraternity were able to enjoy cheering on the Gators with peers and were able to network with different dental faculty, dental companies, and other professional students. The social chairs also planned an inter-organization party to promote teamwork through ought dental school student organizations. Our chapter collaborated with ASDA (American Student Dental Association), HSDA (Hispanic Student Dental Association) and Alpha Omega (another dental fraternity). This event was a huge success! Some upcoming social events for this next semester include movie night, a basketball or volleyball tournament, a pool party and our annual banquet.

Last November, we inducted over 60 new members at our induction ceremony. The rush chairs planned the event which included a private ceremony for members only, followed by food, drinks and dancing with family and friends. During the next semester of school, we plan on having another rush event to stimulate interest in the fraternity before the summer months. Before we know it, August will be here again!

One of the things that interests students in joining Psi Omega Gamma Gamma chapter is the numerous academic events that we host. Our academic chairs contacted various companies that put on lunch-and-learns for dental students. Some of the topics included planning for a private practice, products available to dentist, and some research information on dental products. Companies have already been contacted for next semester and we will be hosting one to two lunch-and-learns per month!

Volunteering at the University of Florida College of Dentistry is a requirement, each student needing to fulfill ten hours per year. This is easy to do as a member of Psi Omega because our outreach chair has planned many different activities to volunteer which include volunteering at the Saint Francis House (helping to feed the homeless), the Humane Society, and Habitat for Humanity. Currently, we are trying to plan trips to the Acorn Clinic, which is a local dental clinic in Gainesville with discounted services.

During this next semester, we will also be holding officer elections. We are all looking forward to what the future brings and how we can improve as individuals, students and members of Psi Omega.
