Delta
Upsilon The Delta Upsilon Chapter of Psi Omega kicked off the semester with a pre-rush party held at a local pub. This provided a chance for the incoming first years to meet some upper classmen before school even began! Soon after, Rush week kicked off with many exciting events! We attended an Astros’ game, hosted a chips and queso “Wax and Relax”, provided lunch to discuss our chapter, and with the help of Dr. Stephen Jessee, fed the first years donuts before an early morning biochem class. Then we wrapped the week up with an evening of Karaoke at Christian’s Tailgate in midtown. As a result of the hard work of the officers and the returning members we are proud to announce that we have close to 40 new members!!!! The official initiation is planned for January, and the chapter would like to extend a welcome to all of our new members! Then a little thing called Hurricane Ike halted our school year for over a week. The wind blew and blew, trees fell, roofs flew off, streets flooded, and then Houston was left in the dark. After things settled down several of our new members that rode out the storm, helped deliver meals to people without, cleaned up the streets, and provided a helping hand wherever it was needed. The lights came back on house by house and things slowly began to return to normal and as busy as usual. We hosted a lunch and learn and a happy hour at Little Woodrow’s in Midtown. Then before we knew it, October was over and it was time for our awesome Halloween bash. This year, the yard was lit up, the witches brew was flowing, and the costumes were better than ever. Prizes were given out to the best female, male, and couple costumes. Fun was had by all!!!! Many of our members helped at the Texas Mission of Mercy in Corpus Christi. The students spent all day Friday and Saturday extracting teeth and doing necessary operative work for patients who would otherwise not receive dental care. Others participated locally in the Race for Cure and the Heart Walks. One cold December day, we were fortunate enough to leave school and to witness a snow storm in Houston, Texas. A hurricane and snow in one semester. Wow!!! December arrived quickly which meant time for our schools dental prom and the famous Psi Omega pre-party held at Zimms Martini Bar. To help spread the holiday spirit, we participated in the “Adopt a Family” Christmas project to help provide gifts to a family in need. The spring semester is expected to be busy. We already have many exciting events planned to start off 2009. I would like to thank everyone who helped make 2008 a successful and fun year!!! — Allyson Bauch, (’11), Editor
