Greetings
from Charleston, South Carolina! It is my honor to write this President’s
message for our Frater. I hope all of you had a great holiday season.
I know that our student members are thrilled to be back into the swing
of school! On behalf of the Central Office of Psi Omega, I wish all of
you a successful spring semester and congratulations to our Class 2009
graduates.
We have
had an exciting fall season, with many chapters rushing an increasing
number of new members, and our alumni membership is growing steadily.
Congratulations to all! We are looking forward to the bi-annual National
Conclave meeting to be in Charleston February 6-8, 2009 and the opportunity
for our student members to exchange valuable ideas.
The recent
National Psi Omega meeting was held at the ADA meeting in San Antonio.
It is always the highlight of the annual meeting to hear the Province
Councilors’s
chapter reports. They discuss the community service outreach activities
and professional education programs provided by our student members. The
vote for the annual National Chapter Awards for Excellence and Community
Service was quite difficult. The 2008-2009 National Chapter Excellence
award went to Alpha and the National Community Service award went to Phi
Rho. Congratulations to all!!!
In addition
to our meeting, Tom, Jimmy, Jim Haddix, and I attended the ADIC
(American Dental Interfraternity Council) meeting. We met and exchanged
ideas with
our colleagues from Delta Sigma Delta, Alpha Omega, and Xi Psi Phi.
As we
approach the spring semester, a few reminders to all of our chapters.
First,
submit your nominations for your graduating senior members awards and
PHT (“pushing
him/her through”) award. Second, remember that student loans are
available to
active members. You can visit our website at www.psiomegafraternity.org
for details.
Third, the redesigned Psi Omega website has grown significantly in the
past three to four years. There are currently several new features. Some
of these features are the ability to print forms for chapter reports,
initiation, and you can also view the previous issues of the Frater. Last
year, the Central Office offered virtual websites for every chapter or
a link of their existing websites to the homepage. This provides an additional
opportunity for our alumni and students to stay connected. Check it out!!!
Many
thanks to the National Council and the Central Office: Tom, Jimmy and
Emily for all of their support and hard work. Last but not least, a special
welcome to our
newly elected and first female member for the National Council, Dr. Wendy
Hupp.
