Delta
Upsilon After a fun filled and successful school year in 2006-2007, the Delta Upsilon chapter kicked off another great year in Houston with a pre-semester happy hour at the local Scottish pub. Incoming first years were invited to get a chance to meet with older students before the busy times of school began. Once classes were in session, the chapter launched its rush week activities. This year at UTDB Rush week was split between the two active fraternities, but we managed to pack the shorter than usual three days with the equivalent of five full days of Psi-O fun! We kicked off our week with an Astro’s baseball game and night out! The following day current members provided lunch and advice for first year students in the lab with a “Wax & Relax” session! Finally, the chapter hosted an all out Rush Week bash including karaoke and a huge bar tab in midtown! By the end of the week, UTDB Psi-Os were excited to have put on another successful year of rush by welcoming more than 25 new members to the fraternity. While it’s normal to have a great turn out from new students, we were happy to see that our efforts and our successful events from last year had brought in some new older students as well! On September 28, Psi-Os hosted the first annual “Dia de la Independencia” Mexican themed party. Complete with margaritas, cervezas, and of course a piñata, we had a blast at this Mexican Independence Day fiesta. In October, a Delta Upsilon tradition joined forces with our school’s other fraternity to put on one of the best Halloween parties yet! The turnout was incredible and the costumes were priceless! With the DJ, snacks, pumpkin carving, and couples and individual costume contests, there was plenty to enjoy! Finally, we helped celebrate the end of finals and another great semester with a Psi-O preparty for the school’s winter formal. Members met up at a local Martini bar and celebrated the end of school and the beginning of the holidays together in style. As the semester
draws to a close, the chapter is looking forward to initiation festivities
in January and hosting a school wide “Thirsty Thursday”
event in February! With a great group of Psi-Os this year, we’ve
had a successful and busy fall and expect nothing less in the semester
to come! |
