Alpha - University of Maryland

The University of Maryland's Alpha Chapter was very productive this spring. We kicked off the semester in January with our 4th Annual Post Gross Party, celebrating the end of the first year anatomy course. This year the party was organized by our president, Travis Weeks, and held at Turner's Bar in Federal Hill - 150 students attended, both freshmen ready to let off some steam and upperclassmen more than willing to join the fun!

Under the direction of Eric Morse, our elementary school outreach program grew this spring. Despite cancellations due to snow at two schools, the chapter organized two trips to Federal Hill Elementary School. Over twenty students participated, talking to children in kindergarten to
3rd grade about oral hygiene and distributing toothbrushes to the kids of Baltimore. We hope to expand this program to even more schools next year.

The senior banquet was held on April 24th to wish the seniors farewell and to recognize the effort of the members throughout the year.

Organized by Phong Ta, this activity was held at La Tavola Ristorante Italiano in Little Italy and was attended by fifty-five people. We honored 26 seniors and presented 13 Pushing Him or Her Through Awards, to the loved ones of chapter members who have supported them through dental school. We also presented seven members with Certificates of Appreciation for service to the local community and to the Alpha Chapter.

The last day of the 2004-2005 school year wouldn't be complete without Travis and Reya Weeks' 2nd Annual End of the Year Luau. This bash, open to the whole school, featured a limbo contest, hula-hoop contest, and coconut bowling. Students filled up on delicious island-inspired dishes, including a roasted pig.

Thanks to our Deputy Councilor, Dr. Seibel, President Travis Weeks, and all of the other officers and members who did a fabulous job this year.

Beta Delta Chapter -
Univeristy of California, San Francisco

The 2004-2005 year started with Rush. Approximately ten new recruits joined during rush. Our current chapter roster is about 30 strong.

The Beta Delta House is a stunning old beauty, built in the late 1890's out of redwood. Recently, we have redone the roof and entire plumbing. Several more home improvement projects are needed, and will be initiated later. The alumni support for such renovations has been superb. Their generosity and their letters of endearment have been encouraging. For those who do not know, our beloved cook of 32 years recently passed away. Bob Daley was a fixture of the house and served many Dental Class generations.

This past semester our members have been an extraordinary force in student government, community service, and organized dentistry. The Beta Delta chapter is literally a hotbed for activity for the University of California bar none.

Of our graduating class of Psi Omega seniors, about half went on to residency programs. Interestingly, the new incoming class of 2009 has the statistic of being 70% women. Beta Delta has always been a culturally diverse chapter and is adapting to current student needs in order to maintain a strong presence now and in the future.

If you are a Psi Omega member, we invite you to visit us when in the San Francisco Bay area! We would love to extend our hospitality to you. Please contact Beta Delta President, Brian Steele, at (415) 682-9759 or email: briansteele@hotmail.com

Gamma Gamma -
Univeristy of Florida

The Gamma Gamma chapter at the University of Florida completed a very successful 2004-05 academic year and we look forward to the upcoming events of the 2005-06 year! We have been busy since the last Frater Chapter report. We kicked off the spring semester with a Martini Happy Hour at Stonewood Restaurant and everyone had a great time. Psi Omega also put our competitive sides to the test with a bowling night in February. In March, we found great satisfaction volunteering our time at the Cancer Survivor Barbeque at the Hope Lodge. Cinco de Mayo is one of our most popular events. Many margaritas were enjoyed after school at On the Border Restaurant. We bid our senior class of 2005 off at the End-of-the Year Banquet. Congratulations to Eric Claussen for receiving the Fraternal Achievement Award and Carmen Casas and Eric Claussen both for their Academic Achievement Awards. The new officers were also introduced at the banquet and they are excited to make next year even better.

Joanna McClain represented our Chapter at the Psi Omega National Conclave Meeting in St. Louis, MO, last March. We were proud to send her and we loved the new ideas she brought back with her.
During the summer semester we participated in sterilization for the Florida State Board Exam. Not only is this event a great fundraiser for us, but we also get an opportunity to see how the exam is run and receive advice from the participants.

As you can see the Gamma Gamma chapter has been very busy. We would like to thank all of the officers who have put their time into making this past year one of the best. We are confident the current year will also be very successful. Good luck to all of our recent graduates, and as always, all alumni are invited to join us at our football tailgators this fall!
